R. M. Bottger has nine years experience as a Social Security Disability Determination Specialist. When a person applies for Social Security disability benefits or Supplemental Security Income disability benefits, the Social Security Administration decides if the person meets the nonmedical requirements. If the person meets the nonmedical requirements, the Social Security Administration then sends the case to a state agency which decides if the person meets the medical requirements for Social Security disability benefits. R. M. Bottger worked as a Disability Determination Specialist at the state agency in Oklahoma from October 1991 to December 2000. The Disability Determination Specialist obtains all of the claimant's relevant existing medical records, arranges any additional examinations or tests that are needed, evaluates the claimant's medical condition, evaluates the claimant's past work and education, decides whether the person meets the medical requirements for Social Security disability benefits, and notifies the Social Security Administration and the claimant of the decision.
