Description

About the Name

The Pineapple has enjoyed the status of being both food and symbol during the history of the Americas. Hailing from the Western Hemisphere, the fruit was a delicacy of the Carib Indians. The first time a Westerner met a Pineapple was in 1493, when Christopher Columbus landed at the island of Guadaloupe. While there, Columbus and his crew feasted on this curious treat.

When he returned from Renaissance Europe, Columbus found that it was a culture devoid of even the most basic sweets. Cane sugar was barely extant, as was fresh fruit. The pineapple was destined for prominence. Throughout the 1600s, the prickly treat remained so rarefied that King Charles II posed for a state portrait with his new best friend, the pineapple. The pineapple was such a hot commodity that hostesses would even rent them for parties, to project an image of household wealth. After the rental, the owner would collect the delicacy and sell it to those who could actually afford to dine on the decoration.

The pineapple has a gilded history as a symbol of hospitality. We chose to incorporate it in our name to extend warmth from our corporate family to your home. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to make your shopping experience more complete.
