March 23, 2009: Arabella Grace Bisconti TerBush was born at 5:16pm, measuring 7 pounds, 8 ounces and 20 ½ inches long. Born in the first days of spring in Washington DC after months of preparation and anticipation (particularly from her older sisters). The Dutch name Arabella means beautiful. The German definition of ‘beautiful eagle’ and English of ‘beautiful lion’ connote strength. Grace, meaning love, was chosen to honor her sisters who started calling her ‘Gracie’ seven months before she was born. The name also honors Giulia’s Aunt “Mutzy”, Maria Grazia Bisconti Martucci. Beauty. Strength. Love. We can’t imagine three better wishes for our latest addition’s future. February 11, 2005: Emilia Sophia Bisconti TerBush was born at 11:35am, weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. Born in Washington DC on her grandfather Raffaele Bisconti’s birthday, Emilia found the world extraordinarily interesting for the first few hours and then quickly settled into a very long nap. Now awake and quite alert, she enjoys interacting with the new world around her. Emilia’s name took even more effort to come up with than her sister’s—no small feat in itself. Emilia (Emmy for short) was chosen for its general meaning of loving and loved – apropos for a birth so close to Valentine’s Day and for her tender, cuddlesome character. Of course it also reminds Italians of one of the most fantastic regions in Italy, Emilia Romagna, and its great culinary capitals. Sophia (meaning wisdom) was chosen to complement Emilia—signifying our hope that Emilia will be wise as well as loving (and of course beautiful!). July 14, 2003: Francesca Helena Bisconti TerBush was born at 10:50am. She weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 19 1/2 inches in length. Made in Japan and born on Bastille Day in Washington DC, Francesca arrived wide awake and eager to embrace the world and all who meet her. After debating her name, Francesca was selected for its root meaning of freedom. With underpinnings in 18th century philosophy and similar to the American Revolution, the storming of the Bastille came to represent freedom, and eventually democracy, to people across Europe and beyond. The name Francesca also honors Giulia's maternal great grandmother. Helena (pronounced HA-LAY-NA) means light or torchbearer and honors Giulia's paternal grandmother and Giulia's godmother Lena. Also we are reminded of the face from Troy that launched a thousand ships. Francesca, Emilia, Arabella and their parents can be reached at webmaster@terbush.net.
