Description
Temari, temari, About Japanese Temari balls
Additional Information
In my knitting club, one of the members brought in several examples of Japanese Tamari decorator balls. They are made by first covering a styro-foam ball with yarn to soften the shape, then it is completely covered with the background thread color. The final stage is where the top of the design is added with colored threads or floss. It is very geometric, design "mapped" by dividing the sphere on lines of longitude (into fourths, sixths, or eighths) and lastly by creating an "equator line." A minimum of two contrasting threads are worked with alternately; following the design lines determined and worked along repeatedly. Interesting craft.
