Description
Established in 1916, Tau Delta Phi is San Jose State University's independent, interdisciplinary, co-ed scholastic honors fraternity, and the school's oldest fraternal organization.
For over 85 years the fraternity's objective has been to promote scholastic achievement, create a forum for students and professors to share ideas, and improve the intellectual life in the academic community at San Jose State University. In Tau Delta Phi, students meet together with a common enthusiasm for learning and service, balanced with social events and recreation.
From 1927 to 1963, Tau Delta Phi occupied the top three stories of Tower Hall, a privilege granted by the late President MacQuarrie as a reward for outstanding academic service. The symbol of "La Torre" soon became synonymous with the organization, earning Tau Delta Phi recognition as "The Tower Fraternity."
