Description
Taddle Creek is many things, but it is first and foremost a literary magazine. This literary magazine publishes mainly fiction and poetry by mainly emerging—but also, occasionally known—authors residing in the city of Toronto, Canada. These authors are usually of the (for lack of a better word) “non-traditional” type. Basically, the fiction and poetry in Taddle Creek is not the usual snowstorm-on-a-farm-in-the-Prairies type of Canadian literature you may have read in school or heard about on Oprah. The kids are often heard calling the work in Taddle Creek “street” or “phat,” much to the magazine’s confusion. Some dare even to call it “underground.” The magazine prefers you dare not. It does not care for labels. Taddle Creek publishes stuff it likes, especially if it is amusing in some fashion. It also sometimes likes to publish work by authors living outside of Toronto, but not very often.
Accompanying said fiction and poetry in any given issue is usually a historical essay, usually on what the magazine calls “city building”—issues involving the people, places, and things that make Toronto what it was, what it is, and what it will become. The magazine also sometimes likes to publish essays outside the scope of Toronto, but, again, not very often.
Interviews are another regular feature of the magazine, also focusing on the known and emerging (and always accompanied by a snazzy picture!).
