Welcome To Swordstore.com/Nosyuiaido. (Nosyu is the ancient name of the area we know today as Gifu Prefecture and iai and do mean sword store). Gifu Prefecture is known throughout Japan and the world as the center for Japanese sword making since the time of the three great warlords. We represent many of the finest makers and crafts people making swords and practice blades in Japan today. We also provide sword restoration services and a full range of products for both the martial artist and the antique collector.
Swordstore.com is wholly owned by Cutting Edge Technologies Inc. (CET, Inc.) and we have been in business since 1991 and on the internet as a web store since 1995.
Japanese swords are made by master smiths called Toshyo. Each smith must be licensed by the Japanese government and must use traditional methods in Japanese sword making. Each sword is registered by the Japanese government. The Japanese government also controls the number of katana length swords each smith can make to two a month. There are approximately 350 registered smiths in Japan ranging from once in awhile hobbyists to full time smiths.
