Sue's background is in early childhood education, also with a stint as a librarian; today she works at a local independent new-book store when she is not helping Rick with Sumner & Stillman. Though Rick majored in English in college, he subsequently prepared for a career in rare books with two years of tropical agriculture in Africa (with Sue), followed by twelve years of banking in Maine. In 1980 we founded Sumner & Stillman (using our two middle names); at that time our three children aged 2 to 9 helped out with the business in many ways. By now, however, the nest is usually empty...
We welcome visitors; Yarmouth is on the Maine coast between Portland and Brunswick -- two hours north of Boston, and ten minutes south of L.L. Bean. Please phone ahead, though, to be sure that someone will be at home. If you cannot visit us, we hope that this website will provide you with the next-best possibility.
