Description

Stevenski Brewster, Born: Los Angeles, California 1968 Brewster is an American painter specializing Maximalism. Best known for his surrealism and provocative political-social visual statements executed in his maximalist style. Brewster's works often use the female figure symbolically to represent "Mother Nature", in contrast to the present advanced Technological World. Stevenski’s paintings have a spectacular range of bursting color fields, merged with partially represented areas all the way too surrealistic scenes encompassed by totem-pole like organic formations framing a collateral montage of expressionism. Throughout the series of Stevenski's works an ever-florescent figure of women appear and reappear in the reflecting of Venus floating above our metropolitan landscapes.

After completing 3 years of College in Los Angeles Stevenski moved to San Francisco and continued refining his artistic language in painting figurative drawing and sculpture. During this period Stevenski worked in constructing artistic interior spaces for extra income leading him to build and open several different Art Galleries and Framing Shops throughout the Los Angeles and San Francisco bay areas. He began receiving recognition and was heralded for becoming one of the beacons of the S.F. Art community, with a favorable write up on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle along with personal praise from then S.F. Senator Milton Marks.

Brewster has collaborated with artists Norman Maxwell and Peter Paul Greco, appeared on television and has held exhibitions in California, San Francisco and New York City. He migrating to New York City in 2003 developed a relationship with corporations that place his art in various public buildings, participated in joint shows and has had one-man exhibitions.

Brewster's work is fiery, both his use of color and his concepts as he does not shy away from approaching the controversial. Examples of this are his painting "Poker Face", which depicts Osama Bin Laden and George Bush playing Poker and his portrait of Barak Obama, complete with signs that show the racism that still exists in America.

Stevenski Brewster's method of working is to maximalize his works by eliminating Artistic boundaries and dimension. Cutting off his dread-locks and adding his own hair to his 36" x 36" portrait of his wife Emily is an example of his painters range. His painting the "Watchman" sold, but is still available in print and is a fine example of his surreal other worldly style that still connects with viewers through their every day life experiences. "Mother Nature's Docking Station", another unique abstract painting that is not only beautiful to view but is also a reality check for viewers on the state of nature in this technical world gone wild.

Each of his works is loaded with his maximalizing theory, the result being that just one of his paintings contains so much "building" of the image that one would be hard pressed to find other painters who pack so much composition and concept into an individual work. Stevenski's maximalist philosophy has seeped over into his very method of selling fine art. He has redefined what it means to sell fine art through his yearning and desire to share his works with those who want it most. Often, those persons are those who could least afford to buy. Stevenski Brewster has conceived a way to be able to just that. There are no prices on his paintings. He has decided, "No reasonable offer will be turned down in what he calls his 2009 recessionary price restructuring." This is an artist on the move, a gold mine not yet discovered. Stevenski Brewster's emergence as a major player in the art world is just a matter of time.

In 2007 Stevenski set up shop atop a new studio with panoramic views across from Rockefeller Center’s (Top of the Rock) where he continuously keeps busy painting and expanding his ever-increasing distinct body of works. His studio is also set up to accommodate archival and conservatory framing jobs for his professional clients. You can see more of Stevenski Brewster's work and exhibition information at:
