Description
The St. Gwinear Ski Patrol is a voluntary organisastion that has an elected Committee that meets every month during the Ski Season. The Annual General Meeting is held towards the end of May and each year there is an on-snow training day at the end of June. Patrollers nominate dates for the roster each season and usually nominate at least six days patrolling. The Patrol subscription is currently $12.00 per year. Newsletters are produced regularly to keep everyone in touch. Funds for the Patrol come from sponsors, donations from the public and the efforts of the Patrollers. There are approximately twenty seven active patrollers at this time.
Potential Ski Patrollers require a reasonable level of fitness, to enable them to ski all day. They must be competent skiers, although there is no need to be an expert racer or instructor, etc. Previous first aid training or experience is helpful but it is not essential. Ski Patrollers must be over 18 years of age.
Ski Patrollers start by completing one or two years as a Trainee. During this time you will ski with experienced Patrollers and assist them in their duties. You will learn about the equipment used, radio procedures and by attending morning training sessions you will become experienced in all aspects of Patrolling.
