Our achievements so far
First Phase of National Research Programme: We completed a massive Scottish Arts Council Lottery funded pioneering rsearch and participation project which took place over 3 years in the Scottish Borders and Angus regions entitled "dance! Dance!! DANCE!!!". This resulted in the collation of a huge amount of archive material and oral history; produced Education Packs for use in schools and initiated classes, events and research groups throughout the life of the project and beyond.
Core: We have an ongoing programme of events, classes, performances and demonstrations which take place throughout the year. We have partnerships and collaborations with both traditional and contemporary arts organisations and actively seek to develop relationships with as many interested individuals and organisations as possible, including performers and artists. The organisation continues to act as a platform for the exchange of information, news, events and opinions. STDT acts as an umbrella organisation for all the various types of Scottish traditional dance and seeks to promote the diversity of styles whenever possible.
Traditional Dance Festival: Our 2nd Traditional Dance Festival took place in the City of Stirling in March 2005. The number of dancers participating and members of the public enjoying traditional dance was double that of our inaugural Festival in 2004. We anticipate that this will become an important annual event in the dance calendar.
