Currently, Stages is working to expand its product line to include a more comprehensive line of flash cards, posters, and games, as well as puzzles, books, workbooks, and manipulative's.
Founder
Stages' founder, Angela Nelson, has managed Stages Learning Materials since its creation in 1997. In addition to 10 years experience managing Stages; Angela brings to the table a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UCLA, 4 years as an educational therapist in the special education field, a Law Degree from UCLA with a focus in business and corporate finance, significant coursework in small business management at UCLA’s prestigious Anderson School of Business Management, and 4 years as owner of a retail school supply store.
Product Development
Stages' first product, the Language Builder Picture Noun Cards, was created through the collaboration between Angela and Karen French, professional photographer and parent of a child with Autism. Karen and Angela met when Angela began working as a therapist with Karen's son. Combining their talents, Karen and Angela created the Language Builder Picture Noun Cards, which is still the most widely used and respected photo flash cards set in the Autism and Speech & Language arenas.
Like any other company selling educational products to schools and therapists, Stages endeavors to provide parents, professionals, and educators with high-quality tools to equip the classroom. However, Stages products can be distinguished from competitors’ products in three main ways:
- Stages products feature photographic images rather than illustrations
- Stages photography is current, while many other companies have outdated photography
- Stages uses proprietary photographs rather than stock photography.
Further, many of Stages’ products are keenly targeted to teach early language skills to people with developmental disabilities, autism, speech and language delays, and to those first acquiring the English language, including pre-school age children and English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. In recent years, Stages has continued to expand its product offering to include many games and classroom decorations that are also very popular in the regular education market.
Stages’ products are set apart from traditional classroom materials by our genuinely eye-catching and attractive photography and design. It doesn’t take a professional educator to appreciate how much more effective a teacher can be when students are interested in what they see.
