- P-traps are designed to hold water to prevent sewer gas from entering your home/business. This important design, however, has a problem. The P-trap not only holds water but, by being the low spot in your drain, it also collects dirt and debris causing a restriction to the flow of waste water from the sink to the main drain. This restriction slows the flow of waste water even more which allows more debris to collect, eventually clogging your drain completely. Once clogged, you must clean out the nasty goop that collected inside your P-trap. Doing this only starts the clogging cycle over, it doesn’t solve the problem
