Screen Printing

Description

The DSPA dates back to 23 October 1934 when it was formed as the DPSPA (Display Producers and Screen Printers Association). The DPSPA soon grew in membership through monthly luncheon meetings where members were able to discuss mutual problems with guest speakers. Trade improved dramatically and the first Screen Printing Exhibition was held in 1937, with the popular ladies night, now the themed gala night, being introduced in 1950. At about the same time, the first branches were formed with a series of post-war exhibitions being arranged by the Association.

Mainly driven by UK delegates, and arising from a convention in Copenhagen, FESPA (Federation of European Screen Printing Associations) was formed in 1962. Today, FESPA organises the largest screen printing and digital printing exhibition in the world. The DSPA has actively supported and contributed to the work of FESPA since its foundation and has had the honour of supplying three Presidents – Mr W Rayment, Mr D Down and Mr L Barrow.

The DPSPA changed to the Screen Printing Association in 1991 and, more recently, the Digital and Screen Printing Association. It is at the centre point of the industry for the dissemination of information. It has organised technical meetings and training seminars, carried out publicity campaigns through its exhibitions and competitions, acted as spokesman for the industry with both local and central government, negotiated wage rates and working conditions and also arranged many social events for its members. The DSPA has kept pace with the numerous and constant changes in the industry and, some 68 years after it started, continues to provide support and help to its members .
