It was visits to The Southern Hotel and other Sainte Genevieve B&B's that awoke the desire in Jim and Mary Beth Ferguson to open one of their own. It was the beauty and elegance of the blue frame circa 1925 house that made the couple decide on a location. As soon as they walked in the front door, Mary Beth and Jim started to think how they could turn it into a bed and breakfast. The couple had been driving past, when they noticed an open house sign on the home. In 1993 the home went through a major restoration which had the town people talking. The home was raised off the stone foundation and a new concrete foundation was poured. a sun-room was added, the pool installed and a brick and stone wall was erected. The interior was completely redone with walls and carpet having colors that are normally found in the islands. The hardwood floors on the main level and the commercial kitchen were the final elegant touch.
As soon as Mary Beth saw the kitchen she knew she had to have it! The name is borrowed from the Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour movie Somewhere In Time and features bedrooms with the characters' names and a VCR, which conveniently has a copy of the movie, ready to play.
The Fergusons, who bought the house in February 1997, are proud to own a home which won the 1996 St. Louis Post-Dispatch home interior design award. Jim and Mary Beth welcome you to stop by and take the opportunity to get away.
