On our first day in Costa Rica, the waist-high waves provided an ideal opportunity to experiment with body surfing. The strong ocean breeze and overcast sky obscured the sun's intensity. After an hour, my husband and I began to feel a 'glow'; by dinnertime our sunburns had rendered us immobile. For the next four days, we were hotel room and lobby bar-bound. Although not altogether unpleasant, we were missing out on the spectacular sunset cruise, snorkeling and the other outdoor activities that we had planned.
Vowing never to endanger or deprive ourselves like that again, we researched sun-protective products upon our return to Canada. Even though the value of sun-protective clothing is beyond question, we were dismayed to find only heavy and unfashionable clothing available. The idea for Solarscreen Fashions was born.
Lightweight, comfortable fabrics set Solarscreen Fashions apart from other UV protective clothing. Because the quality and variety of UV protective fabrics increase daily in response to consumer demands, we at Solarscreen Fashions believe that it is important to keep an eye on the leading edge technology in this area. We actively seek out the newest fabric and treatment options, selecting only comfortable, lightweight and breathable fashion fabrics that offer maximum UV protection. At the moment, we offer three styles in either aqua or white, made of a sheer wickaway fabric specially manufactured to reduce transmission of the ultraviolet rays of the sun, while keeping the wearer cool and comfortable. The complex yarn structure reflects, refracts and blocks UVA and UVB rays, and the fabric is also treated with a UV inhibitor for further protection.
