For ten years I've designed and made historic costumes for clients who go to Renaissance events or are SCA members and for theatrical productions. The one item missing to complete the designs has always been footwear, especially for women. After years of searching, I found a group of craftsmen making high-end custom western boots and orthopedic shoes that agreed to make my designs. They've added their expertise to my designs to provide beautiful high-quality footwear.
As an interior designer, I've used my background in historic art and furnishings to create footwear styles based on museum collections, period art, and clothing reference books. Assuming that there was as much variety in personal fashion as there was in furnishings and fabrics, some of these designs are variations of those examples that have survived. Inspiration came from a trip to the Victoria Albert Museum, and books such as Mode In Costume by R. Turner Wilcox, Patterns Of Fashion By Jane Arnold, Encyclopedia Of World Fashion by Doreen Yarwood, The Evolution Of Fashion by Hill & Bucknell, The Chronicle Of Western Fashion by John Peacock, The Museum of London's Shoes and Pattens by Grew & de Neergard, and Art Through The Ages by Tansey & de la Croix. Because items were produced individually by hand it allowed the buyer to customize the designs to please himself or herself. With that spirit in mind, I have attempted to allow you some of the same flexibility
