It happened when Nexense was still called GIRAD SYSTEMS LTD (and while the title 'C-ALL TECHNOLOGIES LTD' was also used - a signboard with that title was hanging at the company entrance).
GIRAD company was at that time looking to hire a new experienced engineer who would be capable of completing some project and also to be able to competently explain the correctness of the constructive solutions employed to the customer who ordered that project. Quite naturally GIRAD company wanted to get such an employee as cheap as possible.
They were lucky - just such a person happened to be residing on the outskirts of the city, near the industrial zone. He had a confirmed university diploma as well as many years of relevant work experience in companies large and small. He was not working at that particular moment, because he was an invalid - suffered from very strong asthma and other illnesses and couldn't survive without prescription drugs for even several hours. He had to have a place to be able to lie down in case of asthma attack and to always be able to call a doctor if urgently required due to life-endangering situation (he resided not far away from the hospital, too). Apart from all that he also was living with his 90 year old father, who was not quite independent and needed to be taken care of. This family rented a small place and lived on social security benefit. As far as we can tell their existence could have been called poverty.
Then one 'fine' day their doorbell rang: their visitor introduced himself as senior engineer from the GIRAD company - an official representative of a potential future employer. He was not lying at that particular moment. He asked if he could come in and, while the hospitable invalid brewed him coffee, said the following.
The social security department has a section of social support, which attempts to find employment for everybody living on benefit. Of course, a job would be looked for taking into consideration all the limitations due to the beneficiary's state of health. If the beneficiary would refuse to even try to work, it may be frowned upon and possibly even influence the size of benefit. Consequently, senior engineer from the GIRAD company offered the beneficiary to visit the GIRAD company office to discuss the possibility and conditions of employment. The guest left not even having drunk the coffee. The social security official confirmed that visitor was indeed directed by them.
Next week the invalid came to the GIRAD company office and was offered to work part-time as a construction engineer (half a day). Consequently the salary offered was half too, but it actually amounted to 1/8 of an average full pay for a specialist of this caliber - to which the invalid agreed due to his poverty, not willing to antagonize the social security service, and naturally hoping that in due course his work will earn him better reward.
He worked at GIRAD for half a year and when the project he was working on was completed he was kicked out in the street with promises that if his services will ever be required they'll call. Not a hint of severance or holiday pay - he was getting cheques like a guest worker, presumably was paid illegally. At the same time the company administration generated reports about his working hours which he had to sign and deliver to the social security official who once upon a time somehow informed the GIRAD company about this guy. Presumably based on such reports social security transferres money to employers to compensate and encourage them to hire invalids.
Starting from day one he was made to work full time - same as everybody else he came at morning and left at evening. During the lunch break he could not go home to check on his father because he did not have a car and the GIRAD administration didn't let him use a company car even though such were available. On top of that he was made to go on business trips to other cities, where he had to work at the customer's factory. He could frequently be observed not only capable of working, but even unable to get up from his chair. His asthma attacks occurred every day and he had to have all the drugs at his workplace, same as at home - his workplace actually looked more like a working place of a hospital nurse on duty. GIRAD administration knew perfectly well what's going on, but nobody ever offered him any help at all. They didn't want to call an ambulance either, because then all the disgusting immoral and illegal situation would come to light. Nobody at the company even thought about apologizing in front of a very sick man and sending him home, having informed the social security of him being an invalid incapable of working this way. Throughout the half a year he was working at GIRAD he constantly appealed to the company management, saying his pay is laughable and demanding to be included in the company as a regular employee, since he saw that he does the job properly, nobody criticizes his performance, and the customer who ordered the project is happy too. Every time he was promised that his requirement will be processed in due course - but it never happened. Soon after he was kicked out his illness got progressively worse and his invalidity (inability to work) percent was raised.
It is worth noting that senior GIRAD engineer boasted about quickly finding the needed expert, using his private connections.
It is also worth noting that shortly after the Nexense company proclaimed itself as a developer of medicinal equipment and, having obtained all the necessary certificates and licenses, started the clinical testing of the developed equipment in different hospitals of our country. Experimenting, as we know, among others, on pregnant women and new-born babies born with heart and lung deficiencies. Did anybody tell them that maybe they themselves and their children are used as a 'catalyst' in the inhuman machine devouring invested money and the people who cannot defend themselves?
