- Sleep Studies are ordered by a physician to evaluate or treat a disturbance of sleep. Individuals sleep in a regular bed and typically will have monitoring equipment applied to the scalp to measure brain wave patterns and to the body to measure physiologic functions including heart rate, oxygen level, respiratory rate and movement. The study starts with a general introduction to the equipment by the technician and it ends the following morning. Patients should where comfortable clothing and take any evening medication that is prescribed. We want to provide an environment that is comfortable and close to the experience of sleeping at home. On occasion a light sedative may be prescribed for individuals who can't get to sleep. The rooms have a bathroom and shower and, if necessary patients can leave from the lab to go to work the next day.
