I came to writing late in life. I sometimes say I'm in my second childhood because I'm having so much fun. I was born, raised, and educated in New York, and lived much of my life on the East Coast. When I moved, it was no halfway measure. I went directly to the West Coast, spending almost fifteen years in California before finding my way up to Washington State. I've been here for twelve years now, on a wonderful little island in the middle of Puget Sound, where I think I'll stay.
My mother always said I should write, and there are writers who find their voices when they're young, but I think I had to grow up before I had anything of value to say. Now I take what I spent my first life learning and translate it into compelling stories about the issues of our day and the consequences of our actions. I hope that people who read my novels will take the time to think about them, and maybe even act on an urge to change a small part of the world around them.
Not long ago, I read something that affected me that way, and made me want to do something about the world I live in. It had to do with animals, and all the needless cruelty and suffering that is a daily part of too many lives. I thought -- maybe I can help. As a result, I opened The Furrytale Farm -- a sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals that has become a community resource and educational facliity, as well. I know it's only a drop in the proverbial bucket, but just think how big a bucket it would be if everyone added a drop!
