Simrad Optronics ASA is today one of the key suppliers of military and industrial electro-optical instruments in the world. The turnover in 2004 was NOK 190.5 million, and revenue for the Military Products Division accounted for 80% of total revenue and Industrial Products Division 20%. The Company is highly international and exports to more than 40 countries. Export and sales abroad accounted for 88% of the Company´s turnover in 2004.
Since the start in 1948 the Company has been co-operating closely with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the military users as well as with the industrial environment. In this way technical know-how as well as practical experience have been made available and incorporated in the instruments manufactured. Innovative research and development combined with the Company's ability to diversify into new fields have resulted in a wide range of products, which are world leaders in their field. This technology has successfully diversified Simrad into the oil & gas markets, by the development of the patented IR Simrad GD gas detectors to be installed in hazardous areas .
