Silver Dollar Quarter Horses ~ handmade rope equipment for your horse

Description

Dave has been involved riding and showing horses since the age of seven, acquiring many aspects of training horses from his grandfather, Melvin Main. Melvin started the MM boys Ranch in Florence, Colorado, and prior to that worked at the Pueblo Boys Ranch in Pueblo, Colorado. Due to his natural training methods which produced well behaved horses, Melvin provided horses for movies filmed on the eastern Slope. He also served as a judge in many equine events in the Southern Colorado Region. After his death in 1978, the Southern Colorado Horseman's Association created the Mel Main Horsemanship Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards presented by the Association. Dave had many years of showing Quarter Horses under Melvin's direction in Western Pleasure, Trail, Gymkhana's, and 4-H, and then on to Bareback Broncs and Team Roping. Debbie has had some challenges riding due to a work related injury, but has the determination to keep learning new ways to ride and ask her horse to co-operate with her limitations. Natural Horsemanship Training has been a real blessing for her.

Dave and Debbie have been studying Natural Horsemanship for several years. Dave attended a week long Horseman's Experience with Pat Parelli at the beautiful ranch in Pagosa Springs. Afterwards, he passed his level one. Dave is currently pursuing different methods of training horses that he has learned over the years working with so many different horses and using the valuable training skills he was taught by his grandfather Melvin. Dave and Debbie have sponsored several PNH clinics and have co-sponsored a clinic with the world renown clinician Ray Hunt. They have attended seminars with GaWani Pony Boy and Marty Martin. Recently, they attended a reining seminar at Doubletree Horse Farms under Carl Wood, and continue to assist Carl in his ongoing clinics for reining and working cow horses. Each year, Dave starts several young horses for breeders and trainers in Colorado. Some of these horses can be seen on Our Training page.

Dave and Debbie are proud to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and have helped with Great Strides Walk on the Western Slope. Their grandson, Ezra, who has Cystic Fibrosis, is riding Lena on the Horse For Sale page. They donate to the North Shore Animal League, and have made numerous donations to the Horse Rescue Foundations. They are currently members of Friends Of The Mustangs and have adopted a weanling Mustang filly. Being active members of a local Christian Church, they have donated horses, lessons, and training to disadvantaged children.
