Would SIDS Calgary Society (SCS) be a reality today if there was no Dr. Mitchell? Long-time members tend to think that the answer is 'not likely'. The reason is that Dr. Ian Mitchell has been one of the mainstays of the SIDS parent support group for two decades. Over the years he has attended countless peer support meeting as well as received an unending stream of concerned SIDS parents on an individual basis in his office. But there's much more to the story than that.
Flash back to July 14, 1982. Ian arrived in Calgary from Scotland with his wife Anne and young family to take up a position as a paediatric pulmonologist at the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH). He had studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and had already begun to pursue a special interest in respiratory disorders.
