The Town of Shaunavon is located in the Southwest corner of Saskatchewan, 90 km southwest of Swift Current and 50 km from the United States border. With the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1913, Shaunavon became the first Canadian community to grow from the status of a village to a town in less than a year. Since that time Shaunavon has been nick named the "Boomtown of 1913". This theme is still used today in many of the community activities that are carried out yearly as Boomtown Days during rodeo.
Shaunavon offers the surrounding community all forms of services from law enforcement; fire protection; health and dental care; and numerous educational and recreational facilities. With a population of approximately 2000, Shaunavon serves the surrounding agricultural community. Since the discovery of oil in 1952, the community also serves the oil industry offering many services as oil field servicing and construction.
