Second Chance Rescue (SCR) is a Bay Area non-profit, volunteer-run organization concerned with the welfare of dogs (and all animals). SCR has been rescuing dogs and puppies since 1993. We rescue stray and abandoned adult dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters, place them in caring foster homes (we do not have a facility or shelter) and then adopt them into loving, life-long homes. We have saved the lives of more than 5000 abandoned dogs, while enriching the lives of their adoptive families.
The reason dogs and puppies have to be rescued in the first place is that there are too many of them and not enough homes! We believe that the best way to attack the overpopulation problem is to attack the root of the problem-prevent more dogs from being born. Every dog and puppy that Second Chance rescues is spayed or neutered before being placed in his/her adoptive home. We strive to educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering.
We rescue all types, ages and sizes of mixed-breed dogs and puppies from different high-kill animal shelters throughout Northern and Central California. Many of these shelters tragically have to euthanize hundreds of 'adoptable' dogs each month to make room for more abandoned and homeless dogs and puppies. Once rescued, these dogs/puppies are placed into our family of foster homes.
