Second Chance Birds - helping you help birds
The name SECOND CHANCE BIRDS has more than one meaning for us. Within this web site, e-zine and message board, we hope to accomplish many things.
OUR GOALS:
•Giving humans who are striving to understand their bird/s, but are feeling frustrated, helpless or "at a loss"; a second chance •Giving birds who are at risk of losing their home because of behavior issues, and their keepers who are considering re-homing them; a second chance •Giving birds who have been given up on altogether, surrendered to rescues and/or are in need of adoption; a second chance •Giving humans who want to give their birds everything they need for a rich and happy life, but do not know how; a second chance •Giving people or birds who are in crisis; a second chance
OUR DESIRES:
•To help educate first time bird keepers •To help long term keepers improve the care of and relationship with, their birds •To help spread the word, to people who have not yet acquired a bird, about the challenges and difficulties that arise when living with these intelligent creatures •To discuss the problem of unwanted birds •To make the general public more aware of parrot rescues and to dispel the myth of parrots being "pets" •To help dispel the stereotype that birds are in rescues only because they are problem birds •To discredit the myth that getting a hand fed baby makes for a better "pet" and a closer bond
IN EACH ISSUE AND ON THE MESSAGE BOARD:
We will discuss parrot rescues, problem behaviors, diet requirements, toys, tips and anything else related to keeping a bird healthy and happy. Hopefully our readers will submit their success stories or the "work in progress" of their second chance birds!! Plus much, much more!! Some things written will be old news to those who have been sharing their life with birds for a while, but we also hope to have information that will further the knowledge of the old timers. All birds will be discussed: the Macaw, the Cockatoo, the Amazon, the African Grey, the Conure - all the way down to the littlest Softbills. We even have Wildlife and Conservation forums!

•The parrots who are no longer cherished •The parrots who have been given up on •The parrots who are being bred so that one day their offspring will also be misunderstood, and live a life of uncertainty •The parrots who know nothing of freedom •The birds who sit in back rooms or basements because of noise, destruction, mess and/or any of the other things that make them parrots (the things that so many humans find unacceptable) •The birds who sit awaiting another chance at love, while babies are being bought •The birds who are abused and abandoned •Every Parrot, Cockatoo, or Softbill awaiting the opportunity to become one of the SECOND CHANCE BIRDS!!
