Description
NLN was set up in 2001 to deliver a strategic partnership vision for an electronically connected community able to access services across the county regardless of location. Underlying this was the diversification of businesses, skills for all to take best advantage of the services online, and the development of a centre, FREE, point of access online – the NorthLincsNet Portal.
Since 2001 NorthLincsNet has obtained funding from various sources to develop IT skills in the community, implement high speed internet access and develop a range of electronic services and information routes across a partnership of health, local authority, business, learning, and voluntary sector organisations. Some of the activities we are currently developing include:
Underpinning skills is one of our major activities. Here we work with local schools, colleges, Universities and private training providers to help ensure we cover as much of the community in gaining the skills needed to access online services as possible. Where existing provision does not provide for the specific needs of a group we will endeavour to fill that gap. As an example we are providing training with a number of partners for housebound disabled people. This will enable them to develop their own section of the NLN portal on the web, which will help them communicate with each other, provide information relevant to disabled people, and provide mentoring to the community.
