- I began scrapbooking in 1997, and began my direct sales career in January 2001. I signed up for the product discount only, I already had a full time job in the corporate world. Three months later I was laid off from my "job" and faced the unemployment line. I submitted resumes with no response. I wanted to spend more time with my son, then-15-months old, so I decided to stay home and work my scrapbooking business for a while. I gave myself 6 months - until the unemployment ran out - to get it going.
