Marilyn Schmidt represents individuals, hospitals and other non-profit health care corporations by providing legal advice and litigation services. Practicing primarily in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties, she specializes in mental health law (guardianship and commitments) and elder law. Representative clients include Baystate Medical Center, Chapin Center, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Franklin Medical Center, Holyoke Medical Center, Highland Valley Elder Services, Willimansett Center East, and Wing Memorial Hospital.
Marilyn has been in private practice since September of 1991.Prior to that, she served as Chief Operating Officer of the Northampton State Hospital for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, and before that functioned as Assistant General Counsel, representing and advising the agency and its professionals on a broad spectrum of legal issues. Earlier in her career, she worked for Western Massachusetts Legal Services as a litigation attorney on a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship, representing the patients of Northampton State Hospital on a variety of issues.
