Description
The SARS Art Project began as a series of posts I ran on BoingBoing, a collaborative weblog I co-edit with Cory Doctorow, David Pescovitz, and founder Mark Frauenfelder.
BoingBoing regularly publishes reader-submitted contributions. During the height of media attention over SARS, readers began contributing an increasing number of items related to the epidemic. I posted a "call for entries" to readers inviting more examples of "found" and original digital folk art -- online oddities that demonstrated the epidemic's social impact throughout the blogosphere.
The project soon expanded to also include original works from illustrators and artists who created pieces exclusively for the "SARS Digital Art" thread.
