Description

In 1919 Charles Stanley founded Stanley Electric Motor Company in Stockton, California. Stockton was a rapidly growing city well known for its deep-water port that remains an important shipping and transportation hub for the fertile San Joaquin Valley to this day. Mining, lumber, and agriculture were the primary industries at that time.

In 1914 John Oneto Sr. went to work for the Holt Manufacturing Co., inventors of the Caterpillar ä (track laying) tractor. In 1919 he went to work for Gould & Johns Electrical Co. Joining Stanley Electric Motor Co., Inc. in 1925. John ran the shop till 1936, when he purchased the company. At the time Stanley Electric Motor Company was involved not only with the agriculture and lumber industries, but also with the growing paper and chemical manufacturing industries that were prospering at the time. John Sr. added Electrical Contracting and Pump Installation & Repair which fueled the business's growth; due to the Food Processing & Wine industries that were developing in the area.

In 1950 John Oneto Jr. graduated from Cal-Poly with a BA Degree in Electrical Engineering. After performing his military service with the signal corps working on missile technology at the White Sands Proving Grounds, John Jr. went to work for General Electric in Schenectady, New York. His time with G.E. ä was spent working in the large motor and steam turbine generator manufacturing plant. In 1960 just after obtaining his Professional Electrical Engineering Certificate he joined Stanley Electric Motor Co. as President. John Jr. purchased the Company in 1962; under his leadership the electrical construction division was expanded to over a 100 employees with one location in each Modesto and Stockton. Another business expansion was Oneto Engineering and Consulting, designing the electrical systems for industrial and food processing plants. In 1968 the Electrical Construction business was sold and in 1996 the Engineering business was sold.
