Description
Safe Hydrogen LLC is developing a new, patent-pending hydrogen storage and generation technology utilizing magnesium hydride slurry as a pumpable hydrogen fuel. Hydrogen is generated -only when needed - by mixing the slurry in a compact mixing device with water. Slurry-based hydrogen storage technology is based on a $3 million research project completed at Thermo Power Corporation. That project demonstrated the technology using a lithium hydride slurry by fueling a converted internal combustion engine powering a Ford truck for normal operation. Safe Hydrogen was founded by the management of the original project and has acquired all rights and intellectual property associated with hydrogen oriented slurry technology.
The hydrogen density of the slurry is twice that of liquid hydrogen, very safe to transport and stores at normal temperature and pressure. Slurry can be distributed using the existing fossil fuel infrastructure of tanks, trucks and pipelines. Depleted slurry yields environmentally safe byproducts, which can be completely recycled into fresh hydrogen-dense slurry. The overall well-to-wheel efficiency is similar to liquid hydrogen without the inherent complexity of storing and transporting cryogenically cooled and potentially explosive material.
Hydrogen can be stored and generated for all power applications and market needs ranging from fueling hydrogen-powered vehicles and ships to portable power units replacing batteries.
