Gaylord Maxwell is a long-time travel writer and lecturer. He and his wife Margie have traveled in all 48 contiguous states, Canada, and Mexico. Motor Home, Trailer Life, and RV Business have published articles by Gaylord every month for nearly 32 years. He is the author of Full timing: An Introduction to Full-time RVing.
RV Life on Wheels began as a single course in the Enrichment Program at the University of Idaho in the summer of 1994 when recently retired (for the third time) Gaylord Maxwell taught a class in "extended time RVing." Eighty students from 15 states showed up for the one-week RV Education course, which led Gaylord to revive a long held dream of a "college of RVing." With the full cooperation of the University, a full-blown conference was planned for the next summer, which has led to an annual event. It's incredible success led to the formation of "extension schools" in Pennsylvania (Harrisburg Area Community College), Kentucky (Western Kentucky University) and Des Moines Iowa (Des Moines Area Community College), which is located conveniently right in the center of the country. Over 6,000 students have attended the schools so far--some from as far away as England, Scotland, Japan, and Chile. Gaylord says he has "realized his dream."
Instructors at the programs are "cream of the crop" experts on Recreational Vehicles and/or the RV lifestyle. Among them are the leading authors of books and travel publications like Joe and Vicki Kieva, Sharlene "Charlie" Minshall, Marilyn Abraham and Sandy MacGregor, Steve Savage, Dave and Sandy Baleria, Mike and Terri Church, and many others. Tech experts like Eric Davis, Greg Holder "Mac" McCoy and others are drawn from various sources--the RV industry, tech editors, and retirees with special expertise.
