Description

Thanks for entering Rustic Videos. I'm Jimmy Howard, a rustic furniture maker, and here's a bit of our story. About 10 years ago my good buddy, Charlie Sabattis, and I, were living in the Adirondacks, and hanging out in his old garage in Long Lake, NY. Both of us, very adept in scheming, had always sought cool places to dream, whether there, or in the woods, or on the lake. It didn't matter which season it was, any time of year was great! We're both lovers of the great outdoors. I was busy as a carpenter in the summer, and an Adirondack Rustic Furniture maker in the fall and winter. On one of our sessions Charlie said, "why don't you film yourself making rustic furniture and we'll make a web-site and sell them on the internet." I didn't even have a computer then and I don't think he did either. That didn't matter to Charlie, the rest of the world was on-line and he wanted a part of it. I took his suggestion flippantly for some time. I didn't want all these other people copying my stuff. The rustic world was small and I had a good place in it, being one of the 40 or 50 good makers in the Adirondacks and throughout the country. All makers kind of kept their skills a secret, and I thought I should too. It took a lot of coaxing from Charlie until I said "ok." I went out and bought a Sony Hi-8 video camera and started filming myself at work. Rustic... that's what they were. Rustic videos. I then contacted my friend, Bill Ellick, also of Long Lake, a master computer technician. With his help and expertise of computers, the web, and the name, Rustic Videos was on-line. We still have all the original videos on the site for sale, as rough as they are. Eventually I got better at putting a video together on my own. Here I was, doing Adirondack rustic furniture with a camera in my hand or on a tripod, pointing at me, explaining how to build this stuff. I eventually became more comfortable in front of the camera. I also realized I was a good teacher, and I was having fun. I was definitely getting better at video all on my own with no instruction from the outside. In some of the earlier videos this definitely shows, but it's history and they still have good information in them. I eventually went to Maine, where Charlie and his family live, and filmed him in the art of his wood Decoy making and some of his other Rustic works. Working in the summers as a seaplane pilot flying Dehavilland Beavers, I then went on to film some really cool flying in the Adirondacks and British Columbia. I also shot some great salmon fishing in BC. With Rustic Furniture's ever increasing popularity with buyers, enthusiasts, and makers, these videos have been selling. Not enough to make us rich, by any means, but gaining us recognition as being the only site on the internet which offers what we have. To us, it's exciting and amazing when we think of how vast the internet is and where it's going. Some folks do books, but we do video! Thanks for visiting us! We hope you have fun with Rustic. We hope you appreciate and see the many ways it weaves in and out of your life.

Now as we continue to grow, you need to come over to RusticStore.com and look around. We've just completed a beautiful 5000 square foot store in Maine, our first of many locations to come.
