Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Philippine Development, PCAFPD
Description
The Foundation supports Philippine development by creating educational opportunities for young Filipinos who indicate a willingness to contribute to the development of their country. The Foundation grants scholarships to deserving students with demonstrated financial need who otherwise could not pursue their education. The Foundation has contributed to other development projects over the years, including the Peace Corps Partnership Program.
The Foundation is administered by an elected Board of Directors, who serve without compensation. Many of the Board members are located in the Washington, D.C. area, but we also encourage participation from other areas of the country. The Board meets regularly in Washington, D.C. Visitors are always welcome. (Email us to find out when the next meeting is scheduled.) Our Vice President in Manila, Mr. Roland de Jesus, monitors all scholarships, deals with school administrations, and provides guidance and support to the scholars.
The Foundation raises funds through direct contributions from former Peace Corps Volunteers, staff, Filipinos, and friends of the Philippines. Many Filipino-Americans choose the Foundation as a way to support students in their home country. There is no formal office in Washington or the Philippines, and care is taken to keep overhead costs low so that most of the funds are devoted to scholarships.
