Rothwell Audio Products was formed by me, Andrew Rothwell, in the late 1980's. (Back in those days the name was Rothwell Electronics.) The first product was a modular pre-amp with a valve outboard phono stage. It was something of a ground breaking piece of kit and pre-dated the first popular outboard phono stages (things like the Michell Iso) by a year or more. It even had a big outboard power supply too. I still have a lot of affection for that phono stage but it is no longer in production because it was a very high quality unit which was very expensive to produce and the world wasn't quite ready for it at the time. However, one part of the modular pre-amp is still in production, all be it in updated form - the Indus stepped attenuator passive pre-amp. The Indus has proved just how good a passive pre-amp can sound in many many systems since then, and satisfied customers all over the world are using them to this day.
Later we introduced the Rubicon valve power amp. This power amp showed that valve amps can be detailed, accurate and produce tight bass, and impressed Paul Messenger enough to be awarded Best Buy status in Hi-Fi Choice .
However, hi-fi has always been a means to an end - the enjoyment of music. And music has always been my first love, which is why we produce stuff for musicians - particularly guitarists. I've been a guitarist for over twenty years so you can be sure the products have been well tested and are fit for the job.
