Title

Ross Andalusians - Lexington, South Carolina

Description

The Andalusian is one of the oldest and most outstanding breeds in the world-truly the Horse of Kings and the King of Horses. Ross Andalusians was formed in March of 1996 to breed and promote these fabulous horses.

Bill Ross purchased his first horse, Highfield's Lady Riata - a Half-Andalusian mare by Cordobes XX out of a Quarter Horse mare. This cross between the Andalusian and Quarter Horse bloodlines is commonly referred to as an Azteca. Aztecas can be registered as a Half-Andalusian with the International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) and they have a complete range of classes to compete in all the way to the National level. Originally purchased as a trail horse and used for a year for pleasure riding, Lady Riata went on to an outstanding career in the show ring. In 1997 she won the IALHA Half-Andalusian Western Pleasure Championship and IALHA Top Five Halter Mare. This marked the beginning of the appeal that the Andalusian, the Pure Spanish Horse, created for Ross Andalusians.

Bill's love affair with the Spanish Horse continued when in 1998 Ross Andalusians and Dr. Mike Privett purchased the bay purebred Andalusian stallion, Cordobes XX. Cordobes was imported from Spain as a young stallion. He was bred by Franciso Lazo Diaz, a renowned breeder of the Pure Spanish Horse. Cordobes' image graces the cover of Robert Varva's book, Ten Most Beautiful Equines In The World, as well as the covers of numerous magazines and calendars. The purchase of Cordobes XX was a dream come true. Not only was he the most photographed Andalusian stallion in the United States and a National Driving Champion, he was a proven producer of Champions. His offspring include three National Champions, six reserve National Champions, thirteen Top-Five National Champions, and a huge number of winners of local and regional championships in just about every existing division. On top of this, Cordobes makes a comfortable trail horse and has even been used for handicapped riders.
