Eighty-one years ago my grandfather aquired the 4 volume set "Audels Carpenters and Builders Guide" which was then the authority on "modern construction" and somewhat the equivalent of Taunton Presses' Fine Homebuilding publications of today. In looking back through them I see enormous strides have been made in building products and the tools of construction but the human touch involved in designing and bringing to life a home remains timeless.
As a boy in a small Manitoba town I learned to make birds-mouth rafter cuts with a hand saw while my dad mixed concrete in a wheel barrow. In 1978, thinking there was a world outside of driving nails into frozen 2X4s I ran away and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Following six months of boot camp abuse worse than any job site can hurl I was posted to Vancouver Island and became a Mountie. Finding paradise, I married into a building family and eventually returned to my roots.
Garry Rodgers Homebuilding Ltd. was incorporated in 1995 after years of experience gained through all aspects of residential construction; renovations, personal, custom and spec homes. My father-in-law, Guy Lepage, is my mentor and at 73 years of age still outworks the young fellows. We are a family run business and have simple core beliefs; we've never done shoddy work and we've never been dishonest.
