Description
In 1981, my family relocated to the Wirral. We moved into a new house in Greasby. My first school was Greasby Infant School. I was there from 1983 to 1986. My primary school was then just down the road at Greasby County Junior School. I was there from 1986 to 1990. I then went to Calday Grange Grammer School. My first five years were spent leading up to taking some GCSE's. My next two years were spent taking A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Design & Technology. I'm still in touch with loads of people from Calday. By the end of sixth form, I had been in four bands as a guitarist; Feedbach (just for demos), Tinitus (formed for battle of the bands at CGGS), Blues Bros & Sisters (formed for battle of the bands in WKGS), and p.r.o.d. (punk band).
My next move was to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick in Coventry. The first year was great and really about socialising and finding the way around the place. The second year of university was ok but much harder (although third year was even harder). During my first two years at uni, I was guitarist in the Wirral funk-rock band called Kiwi. This would later fade out due to differences, me and the singer leaving the music scene temporarily and the other two forming retro-pop-funk band JADEgroove. Later I would be part of a band pushing to win 'most original band' in a battle of the bands competition under the name Jonny Barber and the Rancids. We won nothing. This would be my last music project until the decision to do my own stuff under the name Whuck.
In the summer holiday after my second year at university, I was a Quality Manager at a small engineering company in Hoylake and was given the opportunity to gain some really valuable experience. After receiving my degree in June 2000, I returned there while I searched for graduate jobs. I worked again as a Quality Manager, and then Development Engineer. At this time, things get complicated; mum and dad were just about to move to the Midlands, about 15 minutes away from my old university. I did not want to leave my job, so had to rent down the road in Hoylake.
