Description

Carol Lindsay is a specialist in teaching groups of drummers and dancers to interact in traditional rhythms form Ghana, West Africa. We use the "call and response" principle and "ear training" (intense listening skills) in teaching the rudiments and specific techniques and rhythms. Called "The Drum Lady" by younger students, she brings rhythm and fun to groups of all ages in various settings. She has an ever-growing understanding of the powerful forces found in pursuing a dream. She follows her bliss of deep passion for Ghanaian music and dance as a form of self-expressoin and inspiration. The love for there experiences stimulates her imagination and allows her to create, to make the invisible become visible. Creating leads her to her true self. That is art. Art is her life.

She has learned from and worked with Master Drummers and Dancers of Ghana, West Africa, including Kpani Addy. These Masters taught the dances, rhythms, songs and stories as purveyors of their culture. She has gained additional insight from her friends of various African countries who live in Portland, Oregon. They serve as continuing recourses for all interested learners.

As a teacher retired form Hood River County School District, she has and intense interest in the multiple ways people learn and knows there is a way for each person to learn successfully. She is and avid proponent of fully integrated curriculum and her programs to speak to that quality.
