History
The original founder of ReformedPraise.org, David Ward, began writing songs for worship and private praise in 1995. Being confronted with Reformed theology in 1996 not only shook the very foundations of his faith but made an impact on his musical and songwriting endeavors as well. On a trip to London in 1999, David purchased the hymnal “Psalms and Hymns of Reformed Worship”, published at the Metropolitan tabernacle church in London, of which C.H. Spurgeon formerly pastored. This book separated the lyrics from the tunes in a way that was new to David, yielding a freedom in meditation and songwriting that he had not known before. When the text of songs is presented by itself the poetic and meditative value is more readily apparent. Looking at songs this way helped David begin focusing on the depth and beauty of the lyrics instead of focusing on the music the lyrics are set to. Beginning in his private devotional life, David started setting these hymns to contemporary music to express his own musical response to the them. Upon introducing the first few songs into the congregational worship services at his church the reaction was extremely positive. The truth of the songs was communicated in a new and fresh way to the church as it had been to David privately.
