- Ron Pappalardo was born in Los Angeles, California, the offspring of Italian and Irish immigrants. Raised in a very traditional Catholic family, he nevertheless spent years searching for life’s meaning through philosophy and various faith traditions. His quest for truth led him to involvement with several of the New Religious Movements active in the 1970s such as Transcendental Meditation, the Hare Krishna sect of Hinduism, Soka Gakkai Buddhism, and Baba Ram Das. He spent twenty years as a full-time member of Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church movement, a syncretistic sect that combined Eastern philosophy with Christianity.
