RateDesi is a online desi youth community. With over 140,000 registered users that are unable to delete accounts once registered with Ratedesi. The actual website hosts little less than 400 active users online. RateDesi has a narrow appeal to drop out university students and locked at home desi girls. RateDesi aims to connect muslims from all over the world, but concentrates on the American Confussed Desi Community of Muslims. The community has a history of bullying other cultures, classes and backgrounds.

RateDesi has transformed from a "rating" site to a "community" site over the course of its existence. Most of the users are male and in their late twenties or early thirties. Who are more interested in being able to chase sixteen year old girls than being part of a desi community.

Ratedesi has many fake users or questionable members on this website. Due to a lack of Ratedesi security features and member monitoring. Parents should be quite concerned about the types of people that visit these sites. RateDesi has been featured in newspapers as large as the San Jose Mercury Newspaper and EastAsian Magazine that questioned the safety of such sites for teenaged childern.

RateDesi was started in January 2003 by a then 20 year old sophmore Cornell University student in his dorm room. The original purpose of RateDesi was just to experiment with php and mysql, but its quick success turned the website into much more. The site quickly moved from being hosted on a personal computer in a Cornell students dorm room to being hosted with a web hosting compnay.
