Description
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a comprehensive, humanistic-existential-constructivist, active-directive, philosophically and empirically based psychotherapy developed American psychologist Albert Ellis, Ph.D. REBT is a cognitive-behavioral and psychoeducational approach to therapy and can be applied both through active-directive therapeutic styled psychotherapy or counselling (individual or group therapy) with a trained REBT professional and as a form of self-help therapy/bibliotherapy. Fundamental to REBT is the concept that people are not disturbed solely and directly by the things that happen to them, but that they to a large degree disturb themselves through their beliefs, ideas and philosophies (their belief system) about the adversities they experience. The ultimate goal of REBT is a profound philosophical shift at the most elegant level possible - so that they become less disturbable and are able to acquire the skills of leading a more fulfilling life. The purpose of REBT is for people to acquire a realistic, tolerant philosophy of life - empowering them to lead a reasonable happy and fulfilling life even when they are afflicted with unfortunate circumstances. REBT is a framework for alleviating, minimizing and resolving neurotic tendencies, debilitating and destructive emotions, un-adoptive and self-defeating behaviors in human beings by making them not merely feel better but also get better.
REBTresources.info is dedicated to linking together resources on this unique therapautic system.
