Quarantine Adventures

Description

Excerpted from the website:

Recently, my 50-year-old husband, a lifelong Seattle resident, surprised us both by accepting a job transfer to London. The main obstacle was England’s strict quarantine system . Our absolute refusal to quarantine our two Newfoundlands and Labrador launched us on a long journey to bring them to England safely. I was one of the first Americans to bring pets in using the new, more humane British "PETS Scheme" rules. My journal Quarantine Adventures chronicles how we managed complex logistics, found landlords, lived in four different countries, spent weeks in hotels, fled across France to Switzerland in an effort to save our oldest Newf, accessed vet care and other services—and managed to keep our marriage strong while he lived in England and I lived everywhere else. It is conveniently spiral bound for easy reading and contains nearly one hundred photographs. Two appendices give helpful information about the PETS steps and contacts of all kinds who provided help along the way. DEFRA, the agency in charge of animal health, added the United States and Canada to the list of "PETS Scheme" qualifying countries effective December 2002. This eliminates the need to move to a qualifying country before you can start the complex steps, but all "PETS" steps described in Quarantine Adventures— plus some extra new steps added just for pets coming from North America — will still have to be completed prior to bringing your companion animal to the United Kingdom. Quarantine Adventures has been updated to include information on these developments.
