Der Künstler befasst sich mit Naturwissenschaft und Philosophie. Bekannt ist Michael Prax durch Vorträge "Was ist die Wirklichkeit?" und "Binär gegen Philosophie". Hier ein kleiner Ausschnitt zum Gedankengebäude des Künstlers.
Die Wirklichkeit?
”Es soll ... gezeigt werden, daß der Glaube, es gäbe nur eine Wirklichkeit, die gefährlichste all dieser Selbsttäuschungen ist; daß es vielmehr zahllose Wirklichkeitsauffassungen gibt, die sehr widersprüchlich sein können, die alle das Ergebnis von Kommunikation und nicht der Widerschein ewiger, objektiver Wahrheiten sind.”
”Der eigentliche Wahn liegt in der Annahme, daß es eine wirkliche Wirklichkeit zweiter Ordnung gibt ...” ist eine der Aussagen der Wissenschaft.
Immer wieder begegnet man in den philosophischen Schriften der Unterscheidung von Wirklichkeiten. 1. Ordnung sind geometrische mathematische Aussagen, wie z. b. ein Kreis oder ein Dreieck. Alle Wirklichkeiten 2. Ordnung unterliegen der Subjektivität.
Dieses Modell kann man auf die Kunst übertragen. Es gibt die Wirklichkeit erster Ordnung, wie Farbe und Form. Die Wirklichkeit zweiter Ordnung entsteht beim Betrachten. Diese Wirklichkeit ist eine subjektive Realität, die der Betrachter entstehen lässt. Sie ist vielfältig und beinhaltet unendlich viele Möglichkeiten das Kunstwerk wahrzunehmen. Zum anderen ist der Mensch, dadurch dass er unendlich viele Wirklichkeiten besitzt, primär bestrebt eine seiner subjektiven Wirklichkeiten zu manifestieren.
Stephen Hawking der in seinem Buch ”Eine kurze Geschichte der Zeit” vor allem die Relativität von Raum und Zeit im vorwiegend kosmologischen Sinne bespricht. Zwei Parameter, die in der Physik gerne als Wirklichkeiten 1.Ordnung betrachtet werdend. h. als Wirklichkeiten angesehen wurden, die nicht bezweifelbar sind. Oder zweifeln Sie an der Zeit als konstante Recheneinheit?
”Nach einer Vorhersage der allgemeinen Relativitätstheorie verstreicht die Zeit in der Nähe eines massiven Körpers wie der Erde langsamer - dies beruht auf einer bestimmten Beziehung zwischen der Energie des Lichtes und der Gravitation”.
Also auch die fest berechenbare Zeit scheint unter bestimmten Begebenheiten nicht mehr an die ursprünglichen Berechnungsgrundlagen gebunden zu sein. Und auch die Quantenmechanik liefert eine ”Reihe möglicher Resultate” und keine absoluten Ergebnisse.
”Die wachsende Fähigkeit der Menschheit, das Universum zu verstehen, hat einen kleinen Winkel der Ordnung in einem zunehmend der Unordnung verfallenden Universum geschaffen”.
