Description

Marlene Breitenbach, M.S.Ed, author of the PlaySteps® series, is a special educator and consultant with over 20 years of experience teaching children with autism and severe disabilities. As a founding member and officer of the Hudson Valley Autism Society and a member of the Regional Advisory Committee for the New York Autism Network, she assisted parents and professionals to advocate for children and adults with autism. She was a member of the Consensus Panel selected by the New York State Department of Health to draft the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Early Intervention: Autism/Pervasive Developmental Disorders.(NYSDOH, 1999). She is currently Special Education Autism Coordinator with the Department of Education in Prince Edward Island, Canada and participates in research projects in inclusion and autism prevalence in Canada.

Her understanding of the importance of play in the development of language and problem solving skills has led to the creation of the PlaySteps books, in the hope that many children will find pleasure and pride as their play skills grow.
