The idea of Tetris came from an ancient Greek puzzle game, Pentaminos which involved placing and arranging puzzle pieces made of 5 squares. The idea of having so many 5 square pieces, and arranging them on the board was cumbersome and not an easy task to implement on video/pc game based environment.
