Pamela J. Polley: People and Places in Oil on Canvas
Description
Born in a suburb of Chicago, I started my art career when, in 3rd grade, I won the coloring contest for best use of my medium (crayons). In high school, I was directed toward a “more serious” curriculum, and although I eventually mastered calculus, my passions always lay in the creative fields of art and literature.
Thinking to bridge these diversities, I majored in architecture in college, but again, I was much more inclined to attend (and stay awake in) my 8 AM elective painting classes than my required structures courses. Nevertheless, I graduated with my MArch in the heart of the 80’s (new wave, ska, shoulder pads) and persevered to obtain my architectural license in 1990.
The bridge of diversities never got built and I’ve always considered architecture (especially of the bureaucratic nature in which I found myself employed) my “day job”, assuring myself it was better than waitressing. Secretly I continued to paint and write and had my first showing of paintings in 1995.
