(Pixel) was formed in July 2001 to develop and manufacture a family of high-speed digital video processing and compression products leveraging commercially available Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a focal point for image processing research and advanced sensors technology, Pixel is strategically located to capitalize on the expertise of multiple technology organizations and local universities. Pixel Velocity's core technology was developed through the expertise of several talented individuals, who combined have over 100 years of work in integrated circuit design, image processing research, and machine vision applications. The Pixel team recognized the need for an improved means of processing the massive amounts of image information being generated through the widespread use of high resolution imaging sensors in commercial video products, security systems, and industrial inspection cameras. To address these demanding applications, Pixel Velocity has developed a compact, rugged and scalable FPGA-based processing architecture well suited to the demanding needs of real-time image processing. Packaged as a family of cameras and stand-alone reconfigurable computing systems, the Pixel architecture offers unprecedented flexibility for organizations looking to implement cost effective, state-of-the-art solutions for their image processing applications. The Pixel Velocity FPGA image processor provides the benefits of custom integrated circuits in terms of speed, power and weight, with substantial reduction in implementation cost and technical risk.
